Space Pirates

I drew this cover for the new release from the League of Space Pirates. It's a 7 inch which comes with a comic illustrated by Matt Deans and Meg Gandy. Each artist has interpreted one of the 2 songs. You can buy it here, or come out the the release at Balliceaux in Richmond, VA on Thursday, March 7th and enjoy the FREE dance party! Starts at 10PM at 203 N. Lombardy St.

For those unfamiliar with the LoSP, it's the brainchild of Noah Scalin, known for his Skull-A-Day project, his incredible design work,  and amazing books on creativity and design. Noah also has an art show featuring 36 of his 100 painted skulls at Books, Bikes, and Beyond Thrift through the end of February, so see it while you can!

Carhartt Skate Factory

Last week, I received this package from Carhartt Work In Progress. It included the Fall/Winter 2013 skate catalog, which I had done the above illustration for. It's a group portrait of the team and a few people who work for the company, all at their base of operations. The catalog also features the Snake Beast deck series I illustrated. I was surprised and stoked to see that the team portrait had also been used for postcards, and that the package also contained a cleverly designed skate tool/carabiner. Check out Carhartt's site to see what other innovative skate projects they're cooking up! This is what all the big skate companies should be like.

CREATURE x BARF: Atomic Bummer series

I'm unbelievably excited about the release of this skate deck series from CREATURE SKATEBOARDS. Not only are they one of my favorite of the major companies, they gave me carte blanche with the design. I'm also flattered that they were really thorough in crediting my work in a CREATURE x BARF project release.

All of the boards come with a full color iron-on related to each of the corresponding graphics. I can't wait to see how those look on fabric, more to come on that later.

I've had a lot of great response from everyone too. But get them while you can, each graphic is a limited run of 300, each individually numbered.

Richmond Macabre

I Illustrated the cover for Richmond Macabre 2: More Nightmares, a collection of short horror stories with Virginia's capital as its backdrop. I'm really happy with how the final art came out. In the production phase, we discussed a number of possibilities for subject matter from Richmond's wide variety of somewhat strange historical landmarks, and settled on the pyramid at Hollywood Cemetery.

If you're in or around the Richmond area, copies are available at Chop Suey Books (support local business!). For everybody, there's Amazon. Stories are by Charles Albert, David Alluisi, R.C. Allen, Jr., Michael Gray Baughan, Dale Brumfield, Meriah L. Crawford, Phil Ford, Julie Geen, Dean Knight, Rebecca Snow, Sarah Vogelsong, and an introduction by Beth Brown.

Talk about immediate gratification, I just finished drawing this 4 days ago and now I'm wearing one. If I can keep this up, I'll never have to do laundry again. You can get yourself a clean shirt by heading into Vinyl Conflict at 324 S. Pine St., Richmond, VA 23220 or emailing headcountrecords@gmail.com

Also, check out a larger version of the drawing.
